The Best Herbs for Children: Chamomile

The Best Herbs for Children: Chamomile

One of the best herbs for children to use is chamomile. The most widely used variety of chamomile is german chamomile. It is grown as a self-seeding annual and super easy to add to your home garden.

If you want to have dried chamomile on hand to use throughout the year I suggest this organic option from US Wellness Naturals

Not only is chamomile easy to stock up on, but it is also safe for the whole family to use. Just be sure no one has an allergy to plants in the Asteraceae family.

The Benefits of Chamomile

Chamomile is nervine, which means it is healing to the nervous system. This soothing action can help calm stressed babies (or parents!) and makes a great addition to bedtime routines.

You can brew some chamomile tea to add to the baby’s bath (let it cool first) or you can give it as a drink before bed to your toddler.

Other benefits of chamomile include helping to support the body’s natural fever reducing processes, being anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, anti-microbial, and serving as a wonderful digestive aid.

Chamomile does well in poorer soils, which makes it such an easy herb to grow for your family garden! It is a great herb to grow with kids as well. It has a beautifully subtle scent and it is so versatile you can use it for everything from making tea to creating your own herbal-based family skincare and herbal recipes.

When it comes to incorporating herbs into your everyday life, chamomile is the best one to start with, in my opinion.
